Capstone Fair Documentation

Sights (Pictures)

There were only a handful of people that interacted with my project at the Capstone Fair, mainly due to its length and sub-par experience in a noisy environment. Kayla, pictured in the left and upper right photos, was the only person who stayed through to the end of it while I was beside it. I talked with a good amount of people, though, and heard many positive things.

Sounds (Feedback)

  • Kayla really liked how the videos were filmed from the first-person point-of-view. She also said that she was able to relate to one of the decisions and its consequence because she had experienced it a few times in her life in the same way!
  • Anusha, another DCC student, and her roommate, Ritu, went through part of the experience together. Anusha loved the immersive effect, and the addition of the voice-overs that provided background information. Ritu added that she felt like she was the one walking around and interacting in the videos (which is exactly the effect I want!). She referenced the time when the alarm went off, saying that she thought she was waking up to go to her exam.
  • By far, the best piece of feedback I was given all evening came from the mother of another DCC student. With a background in hearing and speech sciences, she told me that this type of experience would be fantastic for young children with autism, who have a lot of trouble making decisions. She said that the concept of simulating real-life situations in the form of videos from the first-person point-of-view would really help them practice and be better prepared in real-life situations as they grow up. This really put me in awe because I had never thought of a real-world application where my project could be used.
